Making Vine and cherry pit black pigments

Vine Black is simply a piece of roasted grape vine. With this you can draw directly, or process it into a painting pigment.

What you have: One small piece of vine black charcoal (or burnt fruit stones) , mortar and pestle, gum arabic.

What you’ll need: some water and a palette knife.

Process: Using the mortar and pestle, reduce the burnt vines to a fine power. Add water and gum arabic as necessary for consistency.

Alternatively, add linseed oil for oil paint.
